A Message from Our Chairman
Message from the Chairman:
Greetings! My name is Michael Sparber and I am honored to be the Chairman of the NWI Veterans Action Council. Thank you for taking the opportunity to view our website. You will find information on our NWI Veterans Action Council, such as our mission statement, list of our board of directors, news and events, programs, contact information and resources of value to our active service members, veterans and families.
We thank Calumet College of St. Joseph for lending their support as our fiscal agent. You will notice from our growing list of active board members and partnerships that we have engaged the community leadership from Northwest Indiana for service to our area National Guard, Reserve units and veterans along with their families. We have formed a partnership of NWI area colleges and businesses, local government, the Veterans Administration and a number of nonprofits all serving the needs of our veterans. We are grateful to One Region for its confidence to list the NWI Veterans Action Council and our mission to service and enhance the quality of life for our Northwest Indiana veterans as one of their sixteen initiatives.
Our intention is to be an advocate for our Northwest Indiana active service members and veterans, along with their families to enhance the quality of their lives by addressing the issues that affect them. We already know about the sacrifices our veterans and their families have made in the past and present. But, those leaders in our community who have not had the opportunity to serve our country in uniform must take the opportunity to partner with our veterans to address the issues below. It is my belief that only the resources and involvement of an entire community can enrich the lives of those that have served and know that “Freedom is not free .”
Our NWI Veterans Action Council is engaged in the following missions:
- Provide a state of the art website as both an informational resource tool and clearing house for services available to Northwest Indiana active military, veterans, and their families in need of comfort and support
- Advocate for emergency, transitional and permanent permanent housing for veterans
- Advocate for jobs through local employers and promote job training for veterans
- Recognize employers, financial and academy institutions that have a proven track record of commitment to our veterans
- Advocate for discounts and other incentives for veterans and active service members from local business.
If you are interested in any of our missions, we welcome you to join us. Please feel free to submit your information on the volunteer or contact pages of our website; www.nwiveterans.com/contact-us/
